I got some charm packs today!

moda charms

Dream On by Urban Chiks, Bliss by Bonnie & Camille, City Weekend by oliver + s

These collections are all from Moda and won’t be available in stores for several more months. Getting them early feels a bit like winning the fabric lottery! I keep thumbing through them like a deck of cards, admiring all the beautiful prints. I thought Dream On was going to be my favorite, but I really love them all. Happy fabric day to me…

One quick announcement before I hop off to sew…the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild is having a Saturday Sew this weekend. If you’re anywhere near Dallas, you should come. It’s always so much fun! Details and RSVP here.

Some of you may know that I started the Dallas branch of the Modern Quilt Guild in February. I’m serving as the President this year and I am having a blast. I’m not the kind of person that would even join a club, much less start one so the experience has definitely taken me out of my comfort zone in a very good way. You can read about the guild on our blog.

Last Monday night we held our June meeting. It was very well-attended and I loved chatting with all the ladies about fabric and what they’re working on. When I came home, I went into the study to say hi to my husband. He asked me what we do at our meetings (he pictured us sewing one giant quilt around a wooden frame). I explained that we chatted about various guild-related topics, had a presentation about spring Quilt Market, and then had Show and Tell. As I’m telling him all of this, he starts smiling, giggling softy, and by the time I’m done talking, he is full on laughing.  His mirth is contagious so I laugh a little, too, and ask him what the hell he’s laughing at so hard.

Then he says to me, “It’s like Quilting Fight Club. A few months ago, you didn’t even know anyone who quilts and now you’ve got recruits, you’re training, you have mysterious meetings…You have an entire national network of quilters.”

[For those of you who've never seen it, Fight Club is a Brad Pitt/Ed Norton movie ]

Quilting Fight Club? I’m not sure about that, but it might be kinda fun to call my guild friendship group the “Ass-Kicking Quilters.” No actual ass-kicking involved.

I unpacked my retreat stuff tonight and realized that I forgot some of my quilt blocks on the design wall.  Looks like I’ll be trying to sweet talk the 1890s House into mailing them to me or making a 30-minute drive to get them. BOO.

dresden plates.

Tonight was the first time I felt like sewing again since I’ve been home from the quilt retreat so I did a bit of paper piecing. These little Dresden plates are addictive! And they’re the perfect way to use up scraps. The finished plate measures about six inches across so it’s going to take quite a few of these to make a quilt. When I bought the paper piecing templates, I saw an even smaller version that seemed ridiculous but now I’m tempted to go back and get a few. I can think of lots of uses for tiny Dresden plates.

In other news…if you’re in Dallas/Ft. Worth, don’t forget that the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild is having a monthly Saturday Sew this weekend. It’s a lot of fun! You can find details and RSVP here.

I spent the weekend at a quilt retreat with the officers from the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild. We had such a good time!  We stayed at the 1890 House in Cedar Hill and did a ton of sewing, eating, talking, and laughing.  I’m too exhausted for words so here are some pictures from the weekend.

plum lovely + sashing

Now that it’s getting some sashing, this quilt is less “plum” and more pink/orange. Maybe I should have gone with brown sashing – to match Moose and help bring out the plum.

Moose loves quilting

I’m hoping to get this top finished this week and maybe, just maybe, quilted this weekend at the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild officer’s retreat.  We’re going to spend the weekend here:

I can’t wait!!!!
